KY eats - Dragon-i Restaurant at 1 Utama

So as I was walking to the Vietnam Kitchen at 1 Utama new wing from MPH bookstore. Something new caught my eye, it was the new and shiny banner of Dragon-i restaurant. It displayed something like "He has arrived! We have waited for 10 years!", and "Gunniess book of records." I remembered seeing that on Kimberly's post, hence I told myself I would check that place out, that was a few months ago.

Nice setting with pretty good interior decoration.

The restaurant name in Mandarin is "Long de Chuan Ren", which means the people of dragon, but they've put a spin to it and instead of the "Long" of dragon, they used to "Long" of "Siu Long Pau", which literally means pau in a small basket. The restaurant's speciality as advertised is siu long pau and their ramen.

One thing that this place definately get a vote from me was their menu. Every single item is accompanied with a photo and some description of the dish. It helps alot to decipher what some of these dishes come with.

are you hungry?

We ordered the ramen soup with ribs (since the picture they shown on the menu was the largest..), a bamboo shoot side dish, a fried ramen entry, and a dessert.

The ramen soup was pretty good, the ramen itself quite fine and very smooth. The soup doesn't carry very strong taste but gives a subtle hint of aroma, which was nice and didn't feel like those that are overly laden with MSG. The ribs would have been perfect had it been a bit more fatty, but that's just my taste. Maybe these days people are slightly more health concious? *gasp*

The bamboo shoot side dish was pretty decent, though looks abit like eating centipede carcases. The sauce was a little bit too sweet though, but the texture was very nice. As for the fried ramen, my dinner partner of the evening was not able to finish it, claiming that it's a bit too oily. I tasted the dish, it wasn't bad, however it was too oily even for me, and didn't really impress my taste bud one way or the other.

As for the dessert, it was as if they tried too hard. Either that, or because we were the late customers, we got it filled with too much fungus and longans and all those ingredients, but not nearly enough liquid to let those little things swim in. It ended up overly sweet and didn't do a particularly excellent job as far as thirst quenching goes.

Overall, it's a pretty decent place with a very nice atmosphere with pretty reasonable price (the meal was some RM40 or so if I remember correctly). Perhaps I'll have to try their siu long pau next time, avoid the fried ramen.

It is situated in 1-Utama, new wing, next to Vietmanese Kitchen that's on 3rd 2nd floor by MPH bookstore.

KY eats - Melaka Street Restaurant at SS2

it was kerol, horny, and myself

So we were hungry and we were at SS2, if you have ever been to the area at dinner time, you know it's not easy to find a parking space. When we finally did, we were not far from this Melaka Street Restaurant. After taking a look on the menu to make sure that it was within budget, we were off to the uncharted water.

drool? drool anyone??

The place is reasonably new. I believe they might have taken over the old Vietnamese Kitchen shop lot after the former decided to concentrate on it's 1 Utama establishment. Interior decoration is pretty basic but rather comfortable. It does try to create an old school Melaka's atmosphere, I think.. not that I've been to Melaka yet..

check out our traffic light drinks!

We ordered fried asparagus with belacan, sambal squid (kerol's favorite creature to eat), and this fried chicken with the name that has escaped my mind (something like aunty lam or .. .) The asparagus was absolutely fabulous, squid was equally good but not too spicy. As for the chicken, it came with some chili sauce for dipping, the taste gives a hint of belacan and a pretty decent job at marination. The rice served was well cooked and in a pretty soft texture, I usually avoid restaurants with hard rice no matter how good the food is.

Overall the meal was pretty good, though I am not sure if it's a true representation of Melaka delights. The taste was just right and we did not even need any soya sauce or chili padi that usually goes with every meal. The price was rather reasonable too, for a proper restaurant setting with air conditioning.

So easy to get there..

KY saw - Paul on Magazine & FA Posing

Thanks to the pointer by Erna, I found myself at the PC fair in front of PC.com Magazine's booth, and look at what I found. An article on WiMax on the November 2005 issue of PC.com Magazine featuring none other than the infamous dancing boy, Paul Tan!

Look at how the fella tried to appear like a thug but failed.

On a related story, FA tries to get a magazine to feature her but is still yet to be successful despite the ability to do the perfect pose at KLCC.

perfecto!

KY teaches - How to make a wooden lock

From the having-too-much-time department, here is how to make yourself a wooden lock. Good for security, and simply excellent in aestheticity. Follow the steps...

First, buy yourself a normal lock, like the trusted SOLEX.

Next, get yourself from wooden stickers from hardware store. Like the HOME WORKS at SS2 opposite the McDonald's. We went there so many times during the Koi Pond construction the owner got to know us pretty well.

Finally, apply the sticker on the lock with surgical precision. To achieve this you must have a nice and sharp knife, with alot of patient you cut the sticker to the lock's dimension. As for the rounded hinge, use the hair dryer to heat up the sticker as to stretch it abit to make it fits better.

There you go, a wooden lock for that old school look.

KY - Honda EX-5 Accident, almost.

This happened once upon a time, when I was actually still going to high school and such, yah I was a teenager, and still remain so in spirit. I kinda had an accident due to an ill advised handling of the motorcycle that was the Honda EX-5 which I once rode from KL to Penang, 7 hour journey that made my butt almost divorced me, but that's another story.

So I used to ride the bike to tuition. Everything was perfectly routine, class ended, there were at least 50 peers outside the center waiting for their rides, bus, and so forth. I started my bike, and without hesitation nor looking at the road, followed the other bike that was crossing the road.

Big mistake, the guy ahead of me crossed the road with no slack at all. As I look to the side of me, a car was coming, and approaching fast. But somehow while the event was unfolding, I remained perfectly clear headed. To avoid my left leg being crushed by the oncoming car as I was sure that I was going to hit it's side, I lifted it from the pedal and..... ended up in between the 2 side mirrors.

I didn't fall, was swaying around and came to a stop. About 100 eyes staring at me and I could hear some laughters. The dude who drove the car that I hit just told me to ride carefully since I only added about 0.5% more scratches in his beat up car.

Moral of the story: take off the side mirrors.
